Free webinar: breaking into the direct client market

On April 23, I’ll be presenting Breaking into the direct client market for SDL’s webinar series. It’s free and will last about an hour. I’ll talk about the reasons you might want to work with direct clients, how to design marketing materials for direct clients, how to look for untapped niches in the translation industry, and how to make contact with potential direct clients.

Hope to see some of you there!

Note: SDL let me know that the webinar will be *live only* (no recording).

    Hi Corinne,

I’ve signed up for the webinar and am very interested in being there, however I’m not sure I’ll be able to be at my computer at the exact time. Will the webinar be available to be viewed afterwards?

Thanks Douglas! To be honest, I don’t know. I asked my contact at SDL and I’ll let you know the answer.

UPDATE: there actually may not be a recording, so I would recommend attending the live session if you’re available.

Thanks Nora! It’s at 11 AM New York time; the web page gives you an option to display that in your own time zone.

Thanks Peter! SDL is handling all of the registrations, so you’d have to contact them to make sure.

Thanks Romina! A couple of other people have mentioned that; SDL is handling the registrations so you’d have to clarify it with them. Thanks and hope to see you at the webinar!

    Hi Corinne,

I’ve signed up for the webinar, however I’m not sure I’ll be able to be at my computer at that time, because I will be hearing you from office. Please, let us have a recorded file of your webinar! Kind regards,

Thanks Gabriela! SDL is organizing, so it’s up to them, and my impression is that there will *not* be a recording. Hope you can join us.

    Hi Corinne,
I missied the event — I have miscalculated time (I forgot there is no summer daylight saving time in Russia starting this year and missed it by an hour!).
    Have you made a record?

Hi, Corinne! I’ve signed up for the webinar and I also found it really interesting. But the audio went on and off all the time. Could you please ask SDL if it will be available anytime soon? Or could you please send me the slides? I’d really like to check all those links you mentioned to try to get at least part of the information I missed.
Thank you so much in advance!
And thank you for sharing your experience in such a creative manner. 🙂

I listened to your webinar this morning and just wanted to thank you for an awesome presentation! For me, as not quite a newbie anymore and with several great direct clients, the webinar still contained a lot of useful information and action items I hadn’t considered before to try to acquire new clients.

One question that occurred to me as someone who’s living in the country of the source language of my clients, how would I go about acquiring direct clients in the country of my target (native) language? All of my direct clients are located here in the US, which eases the conversation, since I’m in the same time zone. Direct clients in the target language would be 9 hours ahead of me, which makes phone calls and immediate conversations somewhat challenging. Some of my agency clients are located overseas and they actually value the advantage of the time zone difference, but that might be a problem for direct clients. So I guess the question has 2 parts: Should I even try, or stick to US clients who want to expand in the overseas market? And if the answer is yes, what would be the best strategy for me to acquire direct clients who are located a continent away?

In any case, thank you very much again for a very enlightening webinar!

    Excellent webinar, thank you Corinne.
I really appreciate all the advice and suggestions you have given and also the fact you mentioned practical examples from colleagues.
Even though I have been in the business for over 20 years it is still good to keep up to date and see what other colleagues are doing.
Your blog is also great, I admire your dedication!
But best of all was your advice to ‘make translation easy, not cheap’, as this is the best way to keep our profession…. well, professional!
    Thanks again.

Hello, Corinne, I am so disappointed that I missed your presentation. It would be great if you could repeat the experience –just so you know that there IS interest! I don’t know if it’s fair to ask you if you could send me the presentation or the slides? I apologize if not. All the best, Bashak
