Instructor: Dorothee Racette. Dorothee has lived and worked on four continents, including in Argentina, Germany and Tanzania. She has been a freelance translator in the German< >English language pair since the early 1990s and works predominantly with medical and scientific texts. Building her freelance business while raising three children (they survived!) helped her learn crucial lessons in effectiveness and time management.
Dorothee served in leadership roles within the American Translators Association for 17 years, including as ATA President from 2011 to 2013. Her focus during those years was on business education for freelance linguists. After stepping down from executive office, Dorothee launched her own productivity consulting firm, Take Back My Day, in 2014 and completed intensive training as a coach to help small business owners and organizations improve their creativity and workflow. She now divides her time between translating, public speaking and coaching. Her clients have called her a “business catalyst” and “an empowering force.”

Description: Is your to-do list so long that it feels daunting to look at? Do last-minute freelance assignments tend to throw off your schedule? You don’t need a longer list, you need a system! In this month-long challenge, we will gradually build a customized task management system that meets your business/personal needs and keeps you moving in the right direction.
The short daily challenges will help you improve your practical time planning, based on personal preferences and the system(s) you already use. Challenge group participants will also have access to videos packed full of tool tips, life-work balance concepts, and ways to finally stop procrastinating on essential freelance business tasks. This group is for translators who want to:
- devote 30 minutes a day to task management for 20 consecutive business days
- create a sustainable, personalized system for managing tasks
- generate new ideas about how to make your daily routine (including surprise must-do items!) more manageable
- join a group of other translators pursuing similar goals
-20 daily e-mails (one per weekday between May 4 and May 29) with a specific task management challenge for that day
-Group accountability and discussion (optional Slack group) or private accountability (a tracking sheet that we’ll send you)
