Instructor: Corinne McKay, CT. Corinne is an ATA-certified French to English translator and a Colorado court-certified French interpreter with a Master of Conference Interpreting from Glendon College; she has been a full-time freelancer since 2002. To date, she has translated six non-fiction books and a film script, for traditional publishers, self-published authors, and translation agencies. Her book translation credits include Gilbert Legay’s Dictionary of North American Indians and Other Indigenous Peoples, (Barron’s Educational Series), Vincent Karche’s Tree Wisdom: A year of healing among the trees (Hay House UK), and Erhard Loretan and Jean Ammann’s Night Naked: A climber’s autobiography, (Mountaineers Books), which was short-listed for the 2017 Boardman Tasker prize for mountain literature.
Description: Would you love to translate books, but don’t know where to start? In this one-hour class, you’ll learn the basics: the lifecycle of a book translation, from the idea stage to the rights arrangement, finding a publisher and signing a contract, and marketing the book. We’ll also talk about self-publishing, and about translating books in the public domain.
