Finding and Marketing to Translation Agencies: translation rights are US $500 per language. The rights for Afrikaans, French, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Arabic have already been sold; all other languages are still available.
Since I published the first edition of HSFT in 2006, it (three editions and counting!) has sold over 12,000 copies. I would venture a guess that it is the most widely read business guidebook for freelance translators worldwide. Over the years, I’ve received various inquiries from translators who wanted to translate HSFT into their languages; now, with the third edition, I’ve decided to help make that happen.
Once you’ve purchased the rights for your language, you are free to publish the book in print or electronic format using whatever publishing platform you choose. You set the retail price and you keep 100% of the sales proceeds. The key is that you need to have a) the desire/ability to self-publish the book, and b) the desire/ability to market it to other freelance translators in your language.
