A helpful post on blogs and feeds for translators

Here is a useful post, from Translator Support, about RSS feeds and some translation-related sites that offer feeds. For a long time I was mystified by feeds (and I’ve now publicly admitted this!), but Blogging With Beth removed my feed-based shame and confusion, and I’m now a devotee of Firefox’s Sage plugin. Sage is tied to your computer, which can be a plus and a minus. When I’m traveling I kind of like being liberated from my feeds, but if you like to take your feeds with you, a browser-based feed reader is probably better.

I subscribe to feeds through my iGoogle page. I can access them from any computer. All I have to do is log in and my feeds and chosen web sites are automatically displayed. I also have a calendar (no more missed appointments and I can quickly access it anywhere – it also has features to add calendars so I have U.S. and German holidays, the moon phases and fiscal/calendar week added to mine), several tools (such as a To Do list and a currency converter), and a couple games (BlackJack, Bejeweled) on my page for when I need a quick break from translating. My iGoogle page is my home page on my Firefox browser. It’s a great tool.

Jill, you know everything; you should be the one writing this blog! The “access-from-anywhere” calendar alone sounds amazing, that would be so helpful for deadlines…
