Description

Instructor: Wudan Yan began her “word career” as a narrative journalist, after pursuing a doctorate in cancer biology. Her writing has appeared in many prominent media outlets, including The New Yorker and The New York Times, including several projects supported by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. From 2020-2024, Wudan hosted and produced the popular podcast, The Writers’ Co-Op. In 2024, Wudan founded Factual, an agency that helps authors, journalists, podcast producers and documentary filmmakers publish accurate information through high-quality fact-checking.

Date: Monday, May 11, 1 PM to 2:30 PM PM New York time (registration includes the recording). You can use World Clock to convert that to your time zone.

Registration: $60 including the recording. To get the most out of the class, unless you are familiar with fact-checking annotation methods for print, audio, and video media, we recommend that you purchase and read Wudan’s guide, How to annotate anything for fact-checking. Your registration confirmation will include a 10% discount code.

Description: As translators, subtitlers, and editors, we come across mistakes in our source documents all the time. Misspelled or incorrect place names; events listed with the wrong date; garbled medication names; book titles that don’t sound right. We often fix these issues because we can’t stand to see incorrect information slip through, but most of us don’t know the correct research methods and documentation procedures for professionally fact-checking a print, audio, or video piece.

In this 90-minute session, Wudan will explain how to fact-check various types of media and how to document your research. To get the most out of the session, we recommend that you purchase and read Wudan’s guide, How to annotate anything for fact-checking. Your registration confirmation will include a 10% discount code.

Wudan will then offer some information on how to branch out into fact-checking as a standalone service, including developing a portfolio and marketing to entry-level clients.
