Just a little fun thing here: Kidsville News (a “fun family newspaper and educational resource”) recently interviewed me about what it’s like to work as a translator. Here’s the article, and it was actually really interesting to think about how to explain translation to elementary-schoolers!
You were terrific. It’s hard to explain our job to children, and I feel you did it brilliantly.
I noticed a detail that made me think about culture difference. In Russia, the tale of Cinderella is associated with Charles Perrault’s version. We know and love the stories by the Brothers Grimm as a whole but their Cinderella is eclipsed by Perrault. Yet I get from your interview that in the States Grimm’s version is much more known.
OK, Corinne, with a photo, maybe with kids in the editorial room, you could win the ATA School Outreach Prize next year! No photo, no prize, you know. 🙂
Great article. Well done. Brava.
How fun is this! Way to go!
