At long last, the second edition of my book How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator is available on Amazon. I’m in the process of spiffing up its Amazon page with a Look Inside function and a Kindle edition (and of course some reviews…hint hint!) but I’m excited that it’s available in the retail chain. The first edition sold nearly 5,000 copies before I retired it this summer, and I’m looking forward to a long and happy life for this edition as well.
This is very good news! I particularly like the additions to this second edition (and the step-by-step advice is invaluable). I’m off to write a review!

It’s good to be able to “meet” you and Corinne on this blog as you were both very inspirational to me. I have enjoyed Corinne’s book and yours so much that I recommended them in a review I wrote (in French) on great resources for freelance translators (http://www.trematranslations.com/2011/12/15/livres-utiles-pour-traducteurs-entrepreneurs/).
My only regret is that there are no equivalent practical, how to guides written in French. Do you know of any?

Re concrete advice on building a translation practice in French (and in France :-)), my first port of call would be blogs. To take just two examples: http://www.sfmtraduction.com/marmite/ (ah, I see they are right this very minute soliciting questions from readers!!) and http://www.mavoisinemillionnaire.com/ (“Q&R: devenir traducteur”). And as soon as I send this, I’m sure I’ll think of at least five more good ones, of course :-)…

Thanks Gaelle, I really appreciate your kind words and your comment. I do agree that there’s a niche for a nuts-and-bolts book for freelancers who work in the EU. For example, the self-employment tax systems are so different that I can’t really advise EU-based freelancers on that at all. But it sounds like Sara has something cooking for you!!

Hopefully it will be available for Kindle soon. “Real” books from Amazon are too expensive for me (I have to add shipping costs to Argentina and pay customs here).
