I haven’t offered a session of my flagship course, Getting Started as a Freelance Translator, in quite some time, and it’s now back in a new format! From May 30-June 4, the class will run in a self-paced format with weekly recorded question and answer videos; registration is $190.
This four-week, self-paced course is for translators with little to no freelance experience, or still in the “idea” stage. The course is run on the Thinkific online learning platform, and includes:
- self-paced video and text modules released on Monday of each week on Thinkific
- a discussion forum for participants and the instructor (on Slack)
- the opportunity to submit questions for a weekly question and answer video (recorded and sent to participants)
You’ll complete the course with an understanding of how the translation industry works, and what you need to do to be successful as a freelance translator.
-Week one: An overview of the translation industry, types of clients, income potential, and how to decide if you’re ready to enter the market; choosing specializations
-Week two: Creating a translation-targeted resume and cover letter/e-mail, and/or one-page profile; deciding how much to charge and getting paid
-Week three: Developing and implementing a marketing plan for agencies and direct clients
-Week four: Creating an online presence: website, LinkedIn, association profiles, etc.
Past participants say:
–That was an AMAZING class!! Even though I ‘m not new to translation, there was still so much worthwhile information AND I got to network with other translators. Everything about it, format, setup, the way it was organized was perfect!
–The course has been incredibly helpful to me. The homework assignments have been small, yet really useful, and I am already reaping the first results.
–This is an excellent introductory course for anyone who is starting and doesn’t have a clue about translation. The best parts for me were the examples of payment and rates.
