Medical translation course: early bird rate ends today

Today is the last day to sign up for the September/October session of Medical concepts and terminology for translators and interpreters, a four-week “mini med school” class taught by expert medical translator Michèle Hansen. A participant in the last session of this class comments:

“Michèle Hansen’s Mini Med School for Translators and Interpreters is terrific, even if you already have experience in translating in the medical field. The course is tailored to translators, with a focus on terminology. Michėle is extremely knowledgeable and she shares her expertise in a very clear and approachable way. There is no doubt that a lot of thought and preparation has gone into creating this course, and all the materials and recommendations given are helpful and valuable. I feel I have definitely improved as a medical translator and would be delighted to take part in another installment.”

Registration ($365 with various discounts available) includes four live slide presentations, four live question and answer sessions (recordings provided if you can’t attend live), and individual feedback on four homework assignments. Prices go up by $15 tomorrow; more information/registration here.

Survey: online translation technique classes

Based upon requests from readers and students, I’m in the early stages of developing some language-specific translation technique classes (i.e. “Become a better translator: German to English”) to be offered in 2018. If you are interested in this type of course, please take a short survey that I’ve prepared. This will help me assess the demand for these types of classes, and understand what people would like to get out of them. The survey is just five multiple choice questions and then a comment box, and doesn’t require any personal information from you. Thank you!

Winter/Spring coaching groups: early bird rate ends December 15

Just a reminder that the Early Bird rate ($290) for my four-week online coaching groups ends on December 15. I’m running four groups: Getting Started as a Freelance Translator (January), Beyond the Basics of Freelancing (February), Marketing to Translation Agencies (March), and Marketing to Direct Clients (April). Each runs for four weeks and includes weekly slide show lessons and 20 “tasks of the day” so that you can break your work into manageable chunks; we’ll also do a weekly live question and answer session and have an online discussion group for the class.

To read the full course descriptions or to register, visit the online courses page on my website. Each group is limited to 10 people so that you get plenty of personal attention. One “Getting Started” group is already full and I’ve opened a second one (same dates), Beyond the Basics is filling up, and there’s still plenty of room in both “Marketing to…” classes. Hope to see some of you there!

Beyond the Basics of Freelancing: starts Wednesday

My final online course of 2015, Beyond the Basics of Freelancing, starts this Wednesday (November 11), and I have four spots still available. This is a four-week course for established translators who want to make more money, enjoy their work more, pursue new specializations, or market to higher-quality agencies and direct clients.

Everyone in the class receives individualized feedback on four weekly homework assignments; we also do a one-hour question and answer conference call every week, and everyone receives an hour of individual consulting time with me. If you want to get a solid plan in place for 2016, now is a great time to get to work on it: registration is US $350 ($50 discount for ATA members), and you can read the full course description or register here.

Last call: Getting Started as a Freelance Translator

The next session of my popular online course Getting Started as a Freelance Translator starts tomorrow (Wednesday the 23rd) and I have two spots left. This is a four-week class for beginning translators: we do four targeted assignments (your resume, marketing plan, rates/billable hours sheet and online presence), four one-hour question and answer conference calls, and everyone receives copies of my books How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator and Thoughts on Translation.

Registration is $350 ($50 discount for ATA members), and you can read the full course description or register here. A previous participant in the course commented that, “Neither in my undergraduate classes in education nor in some of the more practical classes I took as part of my MA in English (including the course connected to my assistantship as a writing consultant) did I ever experience one course that delivered as much precise and helpful information as this course.” Hope to see some of you there!
