Here it is September 30 again, and time for another celebration of International Translation Day! FIT‘s theme for this year is “Translation Quality for a Variety of Voices” and their press release focuses on the critical role that translators and interpreters play in preserving multilingualism in the world. In a case of professional synchronicity it’s also my birthday and my husband’s birthday, so I’ll be celebrating by translating as little as possible! Happy International Translation Day everyone!

Issue #2 of ATA’s new publication for translation buyers and consumers, the ATA Compass, is online now. It’s entitled “First, Do No Harm: The Myths of Healthcare Interpreting” and features interviews with Dr. James Rohack, the Immediate Past President of the American Medical Association, and Doug Green of the Texas Association of Healthcare Interpreters and Translators. ATA conference: don't miss the Early Bird deadline

Tranfree is back
Happily for freelance translators everywhere, Alex Eames has revived his free ezine Tranfree. The current issue (71), features two excellent articles, one on “Getting the balance right: preventing and coping with staleness” by Alex himself, and “Tools that have brought smiles to my face, cheer to my heart and success in the mind-over-matter department (in no particular order)” by ever-popular translation technology guru Jost Zetzsche. I have to say that I love not only Alex’s writing style, but the fact that this ‘zine arrives in one’s inbox just as it did in the pre-RSS feed days. I’m glad to see Tranfree back in action!
