Training for Translators has a bunch of great offerings coming up next week and in March!

On Wednesday, February 24, Joachim Lépine comes back for another round of his sold-out three-hour master class Harnessing the power of neural machine translation. “This class was practical, informative, encouraging and thoroughly enjoyable!” says a participant in the last session. Learn how to use NMT to handle some of the routine parts of your work, so that you can focus on the creative and challenging parts. $75.

On Thursday, February 25, translation marketing expert Tess Whitty presents a three-hour master class Optimize your resume/CV and cover letter to find more and better agency clients. Create a resume that sells, and learn tips for finding agencies to apply to. $75.

On March 1, the third consecutive year of March Marketing Madness kicks off, with me, Corinne McKay. “This greatly increased my confidence in marketing and has been a turning point for me. On March 8, Madalena Sanchez Zampaulo’s four-week course Copywriting for translators: identifying and targeting your copywriting market kicks off. Medical terminology and Online presence roadmap: Classes start Monday!

Training for Translators has two great four-week classes starting Monday. Both courses include eight live sessions (recordings provided), individual feedback on four homework assignments, and ongoing access to the Training for Translators monthly alumni question and answer sessions.

There is one spot left in Michèle Hansen’s More medical concepts and terminology for freelance translators. Each week focuses on a different topic: the musculoskeletal system, the endocrine system (with a focus on diabetes), the immune system, and cancer, for translators and interpreters who work with medical topics, but didn’t got to med school!

Six spots are left in Madalena Sanchez Zampaulo’s Online presence roadmap for T&I professionals. This course is for translators or interpreters who already have a website, but want a broader online presence or a more targeted marketing strategy. It’s a great time to take this class, since online is the only presence we have right now!

Translation Workshop: French to English–open for registration

Thank you so much to everyone who responded to my recent survey about translation technique courses. The response to that survey was overwhelmingly positive, and I’m excited to announce that the first class–Translation Workshop: French to English is open for registration.

The class will run for eight weeks starting April 23, and the focus is on individual feedback from expert translators on eight practice translations, divided into four specialization modules. The (incredible!) lineup of instructors and specializations is:

  • Michèle Hansen (medical)
  • Karen Tkaczyk (sci/tech)
  • Judy Lyons (financial)
  • Tom West (legal)

Each instructor will teach a two-week module in their specialization, including two weekly live sessions and one weekly practice translation, on which you’ll receive the instructor’s individual feedback. The course is open to French to English translators at any level, who want expert feedback on their work in these specializations. It’s limited to 15 people to allow plenty of time for one-on-one comments.

Registration is $525 until March 23, and $675 after that if spots are still available. ATA members can use the code ATA at checkout for $15 off either of those prices. I’m really looking forward to being the administrative facilitator for this session, and I hope to see some of you there!

Beyond the Basics of Freelancing: starts Monday

My online course Beyond the Basics of Freelancing is for mid-career translators who want to:

  • earn more money
  • enjoy their work more
  • avoid stagnation
  • market to better clients

The next session starts on Monday (February 19) and runs for four weeks. It’s fully online and open to translators anywhere in the world, in any language combination. Registration is $410 and includes self-paced video lessons, two live question and answer sessions each week (recordings provided if you can’t attend live), and individual feedback on four homework assignments. You can also e-mail me whenever you want during the class, to make sure that you get all of your questions answered.

Getting Started as a Freelance Translator: starts March 6

A student in the November/December session of Getting Started as a Freelance Translator commented, “I loved your class. The next session of GSFT starts on March 6, and this is the last session until September. This is a four-week, fully online class for beginning translators in any language combination. Through 12 online videos, four homework assignments with individual feedback, eight live question and answer sessions (recordings provided) and e-mail support from me, you’ll learn how to launch and run a successful freelance translation business.
